In this class, we examine the texts by Jewish-american writers, Philip Roth and Cynthia Ozick. We will attempt to understand the ethical, ideological, and political significance of the Nazi program to destroy the Jewish people. We will focus on ethical responses and responsibilities for the "memory of injustice" concerning the Holocaust. In going beyond criticism of anti-semitism and racism in general, we will seriously challenge conventional morality and culture. The class will be conducted in both English and Japanese.
