In this introductory course students have an opportunity to gain skill, confidence, and fluency in public speaking. Students develop an understanding of both basic communication principles and public speaking strategies through their application of these principles to a variety of speaking assignments, like verbal and nonverbal language, listening, group dynamics, and public speaking.
Topics include an examination of the major variables of communication in an intercultural context involving mainly Brazil and Japan, as well as other countries where Portuguese is the mother language, for instance, Portugal. Topics include cultural, racial, and national differences; stereotypes; values; cultural assumptions; and verbal and nonverbal channels.


評価方法: Attendance; participation; written assignment; quizzes; oral presentation.

  Students may find useful to have a book of verbs and a good dictionary with them all times.

注意事項: This is a rewarding yet challenging class. This class demands that you do your best, and nothing less than your best should be forthcoming. Note that this class is mainly taught in Portuguese, therefore students are very much encourage to speak in Portuguese in class, enhancing, this way, their language skills in a flexible and communicative way.
