English today has become a global language where there are actually more people who speak it as a second language than there are who speak it as a first.  In this course, we will look at how English has spread around the world, how it has split into many different kinds of English, and how it has become a global language. We will also think about the issues that have come up as a result of this. We will also look closely at many varieties of English to see the differences and similarities, and the reasons for those.
