This course will introduce you to some well known children’s authors and some of the stories and poems for which they are known. In this course you will learn about the writers and their lives making use of bio-pics as well as your own research, and you will also have a chance to read some of the stories and poems which they wrote. Many of these stories have been made into films and continue to make a big impact on English speaking culture. A.A. Lewis The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Roald Dahl Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Revolting Rhymes Many of the stories we will be reading are available for free online, although others you will need to buy or borrow. You will also be writing your own children’s stories or poems. Assessment will be based on class participation, reading journals, an essay and your own children’s stories. |
