This course is an integrated skills course intended to build on your communicative proficiency in English. At the same time it is an introduction to perspectives on Australia from both Australians and Non-Australians. Topics will include: geography, Aussie language and humour, history of the land down under, the Aborigines, natural wonders, famous sites, and unique and fascinating facts. We will also review a selection of popular contemporary Australian films.
You will be asked to read selected excerpts from literary texts that talk about travel in Australia. Active discussion and participation based on these readings is required. You will also be expected to do individual research and present your findings both orally and in a written essay. The group project will involve making a presentation on an Australian film to the entire class.
