  Introduction to Canadian Culture and Society: Multiculturalism and Immigration

The objectives of this course are to learn about the culture and society of Canada and to practice listening, speaking, reading and writing English. This year, emphasis will be placed on multiculturalism and immigration. We will intensively look at the lives of various immigrants who struggle to adjust to their new environment after arriving in Canada. We will also take a look at the lives of mainstream Canadians (English-speaking) and consider why Canada attracts many immigrants from all over the world every year.

評価方法: Attendance, class participation and take-home assignments (60%), media journal (15%) and the group presentation (25%).

テキスト名: No textbooks. Handouts (reading material and worksheets ) will be distributed. Various tape recordings, including natural speech, and some DVDs and VTRs will also be used.

注意事項: Please be advised that there would be a great amount of take-home reading and writing assignments and a lot of discussion in class. Also it is recommended that students wishing to sign up for this course have already taken カナダ研究入門I and カナダ研究入門II, or at least one of these two.
