英語総合講座III-13 Representations of the United States in Film |

In this course you will watch films that illustrate different aspects of U.S. history, culture and society. Specifically, the films will explore the contemporary manifestations of complex historic problems such as: Native-American marginalization, immigration, sexuality, ethnic identity, race and racism. By critically thinking about the films, you may better understand important characteristics that make the United States a complex, troubled, admired and unique country. This class will be of value to anyone with a desire to learn more about U.S. history, culture and society. Here are examples of work that you will complete in this class: - Tests - Reaction Papers - Internet and in-class reading - Blogspot homework assignments - An end of semester power point presentation |

- Homework (blogspot activities, reading, etc.): 20% - Attendance and Participation: 30% (Unexcused absences count as -5 points of your class grade. You may not attend class if you do not complete the homework assignment that is due for that class session.) - Reaction Papers (3) / Tests (3): 30% (Reaction papers and tests may be completed alone or in groups of 2, 3 or 4. You must complete 3 reaction papers and 3 tests to pass the class. A paper or test is always due one week after the lecture related to the film.) - Power Point Presentation: 20% (Late assignments may be completed late with the teacher’s permission, points may be reduced for late work.) |
