In a lot of traditional English teaching, studying grammar is mostly about learning rules and practicing grammar patterns so that you can do well on exams.  In Communicative Grammar, however, our purpose for learning about grammar is not just to be able to pass exams; it is to also develop your knowledge and skill with grammar so that you can confidently and independently notice, understand and make appropriate grammar choices to help you express yourself in class, in your speaking and writing assignments, and in communicative situations outside of the classroom.

1) We will learn how dictionaries can help us to check and learn how words and
    phrases are used grammatically;

2) We will review and develop our understanding of grammatical terms and concepts;

3) We will study material from authentic texts (e.g. magazines; Internet sites; pop
    songs) and try to understand why the grammar choices were made in the texts.

4) We will practice making appropriate grammar choices in our own speaking and writing.
