In our lives, we sometimes need to develop a position on certain topics, consider objections and counterarguments and respond to them. English debate helps us understand the fundamentals of argumentation through conducting and judging debates.
In the first half of the course, students will learn debate procedures, criteria for assessing arguments, cross-examination and refutation skills and will join individual and team debate activities. In the second half of the course, students will learn how to analyze policy topics in more detail and join individual/team debate activities.  Over the course of English Debate, students will be asked to take increasingly more initiative, so active participation is an important component of the class.
