Students will develop reading skills as they work with authentic written material related to the creation of many popular theme park attractions. Spoken language skills will be practiced through group projects and presentations. Students will develop their ability to learn language from movies through activities that promote the noticing of vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation in videos. |

Classes may include the following activities. There will not be enough time to go into all of the following topics. Part One: The Disney Parks -Developing Creativity- using adapted versions of activities from The Imagineers’ Way to enhance creativity in English -Getting to the Source- exploring the original literature sources for such Disneyland attractions as Tom Sawyer’s Island, Swiss Family Robinson Tree House, Alice’s Tea Party, and Pooh’s Hunny Hunt; as well as DisneySea attractions like Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Sinbad’s Storybook Adventures -Going abroad at home- two trips to Disney resort, in which students will apply what they have learned in class and interact in English outside the classroom. Activities may include student-guided tours of researched areas, analysis of English used throughout the parks, recording paired conversations about attractions, and scavenger hunts requiring English usage in the park
Part Two: Disney Outside the Parks- Movies and the Internet -Finding Vocabulary, Pronunciation, and Grammar- viewing a Disney movie and noticing useful language features, as well as developing awareness of helpful movie-viewing strategies -Disney on the net- exploring and assessing Disney-related websites in English, developing internet-searching skills and becoming discerning users of the net -Disney Music- Strategies for learning English through listening to songs |
