PLAY CREATIVITY AND LEARNING
Do you like to play? Would you like to feel more creative? Do you enjoy learning? We all can be creative in at least small ways and make our lives more interesting. We can also be creative in groups and enjoy learning even more. Teachers and businesses want us to be creative. Society depends upon creative people who can think OUT OF THE BOX.  We will have serious, playful, and creative activities each week: stories, games, music, art, collaboration, juggling, movement, drama, challenges, and innovative thinking. You will interact with your classmates as much as possible. In groups we will think of playful and creative ways to learn that are fun, learn language and other things. We will also explore how we might apply our creativity to serious issues: educational problems, business problems, and social problems like peace, human rights, global ecology, poverty, etc. Play and creativity are part of critical thinking and could play a major role in improving our educational systems.

Course structure
Students will be asked to creatively contribute to the making of the course itself, creating activities and playful classes, new ways of learning.  Students will need a willingness to try new and seemingly strange activities in order to test them out. You will be asked to draw, sing, write, move your bodies, and think in every class.

Course objectives
To become more creative, playful, and productive and to make learning more fun and effective.

About the teacher
Tim Murphey is starting his second year at KUIS. He did his PhD on the use of music and song in language learning, taught in a Swiss sports camp with children for 15 summers, coached tennis, basketball, and taught skiing. He travels a lot and loves doing new things and collaborating with students in their learning. He loves being creative most with other people who like to play with ways that we can improve the world. He wants to learn how to draw and do other things that he does not know how to do yet.

There will be some short lectures but students will mostly be involved in activities, experiments, and research about play, creativity, and learning.

評価方法: Assignments and grading
Students will be asked to keep a portfolio of their work for a final evaluation, do weekly action logs, and creatively negotiate assignments. Students will create their own tests and evaluations and creatively negotiate with the teacher.

テキスト名: Articles and readings will be provided by the teacher. Students will be asked to read individual books from the library or the teacher's collection and report on the ideas.

注意事項: It will be a fun interactive class. But you will still be expected to do the readings, prepare for class, and attend regularly.
