Barack Obama has become the forty-fourth president of the United States.
In his inaugural speech, President Obama called on the American people to be “faithful to the ideals of our forebears and true to our founding documents.”
It is useful as well as meaningful to get ourselves familialized with American classics that have been cherished by the people throughout the history. We will read speeches, essays, and documents that illuminate significant aspects of American history and culture.
In the first semester, we will read the writings of the Founding Fathers such as Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington. We will discuss ideals and values that can be discerned in the works both in class discussion and in essays.
Students’ ability in reading and writing will be enhanced, along with understanding of the Americans’ national consciousness.

評価方法: The grade will be based on attendance, class participation, homework assignments, one presentation, and a final paper.

テキスト名: To be announced.
