This is a survey course for countries that make up the English-speaking world. Students will look in detail at countries in which English is the dominant language such as the United States, Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, and others. The course will cover basic theories from sociolinguistics and sociology. It will also introduce qualitative data collection, specifically the process involved in conducting interviews. In this course, students will have the opportunity to develop all four language skill areas: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The primary assignments will be unit quizzes and a final project in which students will conduct interviews and then summarize their findings with a presentation and a short paper.
