This course is for students who are interested in understanding how people acquire both a first and second language. It is also recommended for students who are interested in becoming language teachers and teaching either Japanese or English to non-native speakers. The course will introduce basic theories of language acquisition and attempt to show how theory can be applied to the language learning classroom. Using the Japanese education system as a model, students will critically analyze and reflect on their own learning experiences in order to better inform their future teaching practices. The course will be a ‘hands-on’ course requiring students to participate in self-reflection, peer evaluation, team teaching simulations and the bi-weekly writing of a reflective teaching journal.

評価方法: Attendance 30%   - this is a basic requirement for passing the course
Participation & Contribution 30%   - you must be active in class and contribute
Bi-Weekly Teaching Journal 25%   - this will be an important part of your reflective learning
Final Teaching Project 15%   - you will be able to show what you have learned

If any student misses more than 9 classes without proper reason (a handwritten Dr's certificate) they will automatically fail the course regardless of any other factor.

テキスト名: The materials for this course will all be provided in a unit packet by the teacher.

注意事項: Students will need to purchase an A4 notebook in order to keep their own teaching journal and learning reflections.
