| The goal of this course is to develop your public speaking by developing both global and local skill areas. In order to do this effectively, we will focus on both verbal and non-verbal aspects of public speaking. As for verbal aspects, we will focus on developing pronunciation skills and appropriate phrases for presentations. For non-verbal presentation skills we will develop an awareness of aspects such as posture, gestures, eye-contact among others. In addition, and no less important, we will focus on organizing speeches, constructing effective arguments and developing critical thinking skills. Integrating visual aids and technology such as powerpoint into presentations will also be discussed and practiced. Finally, global aspects of speeches such as the purpose and audience will be considered and discussed. Students participating in this course should be prepared to speak publicly in class and evaluate and be evaluated by their peers. |
