Discourse is concerned with the study of the relationship between language and the contexts in which it is used. The aim of this course is to come to a better understanding of natural spoken English discourse. The focus of this class is on various types of spoken English, such as conversations, classroom interaction, and service encounters. Differences between the discourse of men and women are discussed. Contrasts with Japanese discourse are also considered. |
