The classes focus on pronunciation, so I will be using, and adapting, materials from various textbooks to use in the class. One such textbook is Gilbert's clear speech, which the Julie has also been using. Along with the existing material from Julie, I am developing a number of pronunciation exercises to use in the classes.
The students won't need their own textbook as I will prepare all the necessary copies and worksheets for the class.
I also intend to use short listening exercises using authentic materials such as podcasts, tv, radio and recorded material in order to make the lessons more meaningful, practice listening skills, and to provide material to then focus on various aspects of pronunciation.
I presume the language lab will have all the equipment necessary for the lessons. I will sometimes need a television and DVD player.
The objectives of the course include improving the student's awareness and skills in aspects of pronunciation ranging from individual sounds and syllable level through to rhythm, stress and intonation.
