This course focuses on a daily internet radio program titled, "The Writer's Almanac Podcast" (http://writersalmanac.publicradio.org/). Each podcast is 5 minutes long and tells about important events in history. Additionally, each show contains a reading of one poetry selection. For most class sessions students will listen to the day's radio program and complete activities connected to the historical information and poetry reading from the podcast. Additional class exercises may include: instruction about basic foundations of poetry, poetry in music, supplementary poetry readings, blogspot homework assignments, poetry journals, quizzes, watching and commenting upon films connected to class themes ("Dead Poets Society" and "Finding Forrester") and an end of semester power point presentation and video project. In this class you will utilize listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities, and be exposed to history and culture in the English language.
