From the hip-hop musician Kanye West to the Dutch painter Rembrandt to the rapper, the rock band U2, the books Lord of the Rings and Shiokari Pass (塩狩峠), the movies Matrix and Sister Act, and even the cartoon character Snoopy, Christianity’s influence on the Western culture and sometimes Eastern culture is both wide and deep. This course is an introduction to Christianity and Christian thought and its expression in literature, cinema, music and art. Special emphasis will be given on exploring one's own life to discover one's values and beliefs about the spiritual life . Learning in this class will take place through mini-lectures, discussions, projects, presentations, reading assignments, and sometimes guest speakers.
