| What are sweatshops and blood diamonds? How often does a landmine claim a new victim? Why do diseases such as mad cow disease exist? Who controls the TV stations and newspapers where your news comes from? These are just some of the questions we will investigate on our search to better understand the world that we live in. This class focuses on global issues that are neglected by the mainstream media outlets for whatever reason. Together, we will learn about and discuss subject matter such as the media, landmines and cluster bombs, FAIR trade, sweatshop labor, our food supply, deforestation and conflict diamonds. |
| 評価方法： | Grading is based on assignments, quizzes, class projects, and the class forum. |
| テキスト名： | There is no textbook for this class. Instead, we will use a variety of sources for each topic such as videos, radio news broadcasts, newspaper articles, magazine articles and selected pages from books. We will also use the Internet as a research tool and create an online class forum. |
