IMPORTANT:

This sample syllabus is designed to give students a flavour of the types of activities they can expect on this course and is therefore not detailed.  If you have any questions about the course see Alun in room 6-213 or email him at: a.roger@kanda.kuis.ac.jp

This is a MIXED Skills course - Don't sign up expecting just to practice speaking, you might be asked to write essays, listen to short lectures or prepare presentations.

Can you answer YES to 3 or more of the following statements?  If so then please sign up to my course!: -

I am interested in photography
I am always disappointed when I get my holiday photos back from the developers, they look so boring!
I am going to come to every class unless I have a bad virus that Alun could catch!
I can organise my study time to make sure I can hand in my homework on time
I enjoy talking to other students in English
I don't feel embarrassed about showing other people my photos for evaluation
I want to have fun and make a good class atmosphere!

評価方法: Photography Vocabulary tests
Photo Essays/Stories
Photo competitions (involving peer reviews/debates)
Poster presentations
Final Product Evaluations (e.g KUIS calendar, postcard, mock-up advert etc)

テキスト名: Textbook To Be Confirmed

注意事項: 1)  Please bring 2 of your favourite photos to the FIRST class.  One should be a photo that you have taken, the other from your favourite photographer.  We'll discuss these photos in small groups and get to know each other!

2) You must be able to bring a digital camera (NO KEITAI CAMERAS PLEASE!) and clip drive (to save photos on!) to every class.  It doesn't have to be an expensive SLR but if you can borrow one that has ISO settings, manual shutter speeds or 'creative zones' and/or zoom lens then this will allow you more creativity in your photos!

授業計画――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――
1. This course will be based on Input-Practice-Feedback style teaching:-

Input classes: Here you'll be introduced to one of the basic techniques of photography via a short lecture, a reading worksheet, a discovery activity or a guest speaker.

Practice classes:  Here you'll get a chance to practice the skill introduced in an input session.  You might be asked to prepare for a vocab test, set up a photo shoot, prepare an oral presentation or make photos for a poster presentation.  This work will usually be in pairs or small groups.

Feedback:  Here you'll be assessed on your performances (both language and photographic!).  You might have to give a group presentation, solo presentation, write an essay, create a 'product' or apply your photo skills in a REAL WORLD assignment (in English of course!)
