How can we understand American culture by means of Hollywood movies？ This course is designed for film fans who seriously want to understand how certain types of world-famous Hollywood films dramatize American values, beliefs, and wayｓ of thinking.．Close, thoughtful reading of our textbook with sophisticated use of a dictionary will help us see films for basic insights into power structures and stereotypical representations of American life and culture. From the textbook we will study the history of Hollywood films in terms of coflicting and diversified values and ideas in America. In the first semester, race and ethnicity will be emphasized.Excerpts of films will be shown.
