Small group communication is an introduction and integrated skills course which aims to learn the principles of small group communication and to develop students communication strategy in a small task-oriented group. This course can be useful for students who want to practice working in a group. The topics we will cover are (1) basic elements of small group communication (definition, power, systems of interaction), (2) the nature of small group communication (foundations, features, socio-emotional dimension), (3) effective discussion skills (verbal & non-verbal communication, attitudes, listening), (4) group dynamics, (5) leadership, (6) cohesiveness, (7) group decision making and problem solving, (8) managing group conflict, (9) diversity and the small group, (10) groups in organizations, and (11) evaluation of small group communication. In addition, the topics about Group Discussion Support System (computer-associated group decision) will also be covered in this course. We will experience group discussion on the Internet such as using Skype (http://www.skype.com/) and Polycom (http://www.polycom.com/home/).
