The focus of this class will be the study of folklore: folktales, fables, creation myths and modern/urban legends. These types of stories are a common feature of all societies. You will have an opportunity to learn about stories from all parts of the world: Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania/Australia, and the Americas. We will look at both the unique cultural traits and the common cross-cultural ideas found in these stories. |
評価方法: | Grades for this class will be based on class work, participation, quizzes, tests, homework, and group projects and presentations. |
テキスト名: | There will be no standard text for this class. Instead, we will use a variety of sources selected by your teacher. We will also use the Internet as a research tool and create an online class forum. Most of the sources we use are for native speakers of English. While the handouts I give you may have been simplified, they will still challenge you. |
注意事項: | This is a lecture style class; however, you will be actively involved in each class through a series of tasks and activities. These will include, but are not limited to, Internet searches, information hunts, presentations, role-plays, story telling, story writing, and group learning activities. There is a strong emphasis on communication in this class and reading with the homework. |
