英語総合講座III-35 Research Writing: Topics in Modern American Culture |

What is research writing, and how do you do it? What academic writing skills will you need to be able to do if you study overseas? What are hot topics in modern American culture? This course aims to explore these questions, using topics in American culture to learn the skills of academic writing, as well as academic reading and discussion. This course is especially for students who wish to study abroad or do an exchange program and would like to improve their writing skills. Students will be asked to write two papers on topics of their choice. Students will practice the skills of researching, making critical arguments, and writing effectively. We will investigate such topics as race, education, and immigration in the United States and use them as areas for research. Course Objectives: 1. To learn and practice the skills of research writing, including researching, writing, and revising. 2. To explore modern issues in American culture through reading, discussion, and especially writing. 3. To create a learning community in the class. 4. To develop critical and creative thinking skills about social issues. 5. To prepare students who may study overseas for academic skills, particularly writing. |
