Why does Som, a Thai woman, have to work 15 hours in a hot factory without a break? Why does Nova, an African cocoa-bean grower, not have enough money to buy chocolate? What is your role in this? How can you help improve the quality of your and other peoples’ lives? How big is your ecological footprint on this earth? Is that sustainable?

This course aims to look at the causes of some global problems related to inequality in access to areas including: trade (the Global Fashion Industry), housing, food, water, money, services and others.  We will research why these problems happen and what solutions are available to improve the quality of life of people all around the world.

By the end of the course you will :

have a wider understanding of development issues through looking at case studies from  
around the world.

be able to explain the links between peoples’ actions and the consequences of these
actions

be capable of evaluating management solutions to these problems in terms of their
suitability

develop your understanding of how the decisions you make influence peoples’ lives
