This course will examine the religions of the Middle East and the West (i.e. Judaism, Islam, and Christianity), their philosophies, histories, and effects on the present day (e.g. politics, film, language, etc.). It will also investigate emerging "new religions" related to these religions. Students can expect to finish the course with a larger academic vocabulary and a better understanding of themselves and their fellow East Asians. Classes will be discussion-based, and there will be at least two large projects (completed in pairs with the instructor's assistance in research).
