Australia and The World
This course will explore, research, examine and discuss Australian topics and issues; Australian English, multiculturalism, music, sport and film. All topics will be discussed, compared and contrasted with other countries around the world. The class will discover, discuss, analyse, and learn about the issues and topics through multimedia: internet, film, and computers.

Objectives:
Strengthen international awareness, specifically in relation to Australia.
Increase knowledge and understanding of Australia and Australian topics.  
Develop multi-media skills
Improve language skills


評価方法: A variety of assessments may be used: Attendance/Participation, blogs and forums, debates, presentations and filming a documentary. (Subject to change)

注意事項: Only 30 students (maximum) may enrol in this course.

授業計画――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――――
1. Australian English
During the Australian English unit, you will learn about Australian English, how it has been influenced and how it is different from other Englishes. The Australian accent, pronunciation, slang etc... will be looked at and discussed.
2. Multiculturalism
Multiculturalism is an important part of Australian society and identity. A definition of multiculturalism will be developed and discussed before looking at the make up of multicultural countries and explore issues within multiculturalism and multicultural countries.
3. Music
Australian music will be explored and a number of topics compared and contrasted with Australian music. Music themes, language and local music scenes will be explored and discussed.
4. Sports
There are a number of similar and totally different sports that are played within Australia, some of which will be showcased during this topic. The sport culture that is created by the sport and people will be also examined and discussed.  
5. Film
Films vary from country to country yet some elements remain the same. Films from around the world will be discussed in terms of their unique themes, styles and language.
6. Current Issues
There will be two sections in the semester which will be used to look at a specific current topic or issue in Australia. The issue will be compared / contrasted with another country.
