This seminar focuses on the structure of spoken discourse in English and Japanese. The class consists of discussions of readings and the reporting of data. The first sememster will focus mainly on the reading of a book and discussions. Students may be asked to lead the discussions and give presentations. In the second semester students will gather, transcribe, and analyze discourse. They will present their data analyses in class and in a final written report.
