Southeast Asia: Religious Belief and Art
50302103

The course introduces students to a series of critical studies concerned with the art of selected Southeast Asian countries from antiquity down to the end of the fifteenth century. It will explore the meanings of particular Animist, Hindu and Buddhist myths that, in different times, have had different cultural contexts and variations in line with political and cultural changes in the region. A substantial amount of reading and visual analysis will be required. Students will examine and interpret these cultural artifacts and will analyze how the cultural life and belief systems shaped the pre-modern societies of the region. This course is to be conducted in English.
