Freshman English (a) (b) The Freshman English course is an integrated skills course which aims to develop students overall proficiency. This cource introduces and sensitises students to a new way of learning. This new way of learning involves high levels of learner participation with a high density of interpersonal interaction in the classroom. The course is structured around 3-4 week thematic units,examples include: Travel, Health, Music, and Living Abroad. Within each theme are a wide variety of tasks/responsibilities and students are expected to actively participate,communicate and negotiate together using English in order to complere the tasks. Reading (a) (b) The first year reading course involves various reading materials of short to medium length. Emphasis is placed on reading skills, vocabulary development and the discussion of topical issues. Basic Writing (a) (b) The students learn how to express their thoughts in written English paragraphs and essays. Model paragraphs are presented for analysis. Emphasis is placed on the study of typical paragraph organization patterns and the way pieces of information in them are related
