From the hip-hop musician Kanye West to the Dutch painter Rembrandt to the rapper Kanye West, the rock band U2, the books Lord of the Rings and Shiokari Pass (塩狩峠)、the movies Matrix and Sister Act, and even the cartoon character Snoopy, Christianity’s influence on the Western culture and sometimes Eastern culture is both wide and deep. This course is an introduction to Christianity and Christian thought and its expression in art, cinema, music, and literature. Special emphasis will be given on expressions of Christianity across cultures, including Japan.
