The course aims at broadening our thinking about communication as a fundamental form of human interaction. Differences between communication styles and practices of people with different lingusitic and cultural backgrounds will be discussed. A look at communication theories from different cultural perspectives will contribute to the understanding of miscommunication issues in intercultural encounters.

評価方法: Based on class participation and activity. All students are expected to provide presentations using the articles and papers distributed for study by the teacher.

テキスト名: Individual articles and papers for reference will be distributed in class for reading and study. At the beginning of each semester participants will divide among themselves the designated articles for presentation.

注意事項: The class is run in English, but contributions and activity in class are accepted in Japanese as well. Presentations should be however preferably delivered in English.
