The course aims at exploring different types of communication depending on context. Moving from interpersonal through intergroup to public and mass communication, the nature and characteristics of each type of communication will be discussed. By fusing traditional and current communication theories, fundamental concepts and important skills, students will develop a broader understanding and a higher awareness of communication processes.

評価方法: Based on attendance and class participation; small essays and group presentations required.

注意事項: The course is run essentially in English, but contributions and presentations are also accepted in Japanese.

8.Small-group communication; types of small groups, group dynamics.
9.Group structure; correlates of effective groups.
10.Public Communication: the speaker.
11.Public communication: the message, the audience.
12.Mass communication: some effects and outcomes. Globalization and mass communication.
13.Wrap-up, ethical issues of communication.
