This course is an introduction to public speaking. Its primary goals are to introduce you to the basic principles of public speaking and to help you apply them to your own thinking, speaking, and writing. Over the course of the semester, you will learn various techniques to select a speech topic and purpose, analyze the audience, gather materials, organize a speech, and deliver messages effectively in public settings. The emphasis of the course is placed not only on the presentation part of public speaking, but also on its thinking and writing aspects. Students enrolled in this course are expected to spend a significant amount of time doing research, organizing a speech, practing a presentation, and writing up critique of a peer's speech.
