The course has the dual purposes of educating potential language teachers (principles could be applied to teaching languages other than English) and improving participants' English language.

The course is divided into three main areas:
1) A general introduction to teaching and learning languages. (the learner, the teacher, methodology and Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). Principles and tools.)
2) An in-depth look at individual areas of teaching and learning. (listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, lesson planning, testing, coursebook and materials evaluation/collection, problems in the classroom, teaching Young Learners and correcting verbal errors)
3) Teaching practice. (peer/micro teaching). Course participants deliver two or three (depending on number of course participants) 20 minute teaching demonstrations.

Course style
Students are asked to consider their past experiences and opinions on teaching languages, and should come to classes, willing to discuss these experiences and the new information they receive on the course.
Students are asked to keep a journal of course contents by writing down any activities, giving a summary of the main points of the lesson and their thoughts on the contents of the lessons. This will be the main homework.
Instructions to students
Students will need a large A4 notebook for their notes and journals.
Attendance
The university regulations concerning attendance will be strictly adhered to:
Less than 20 minutes late, three times = one absence
More than 20 minutes late = absent
Absent for eight classes or more = fail
