This class will look at English Media, both print media (newspapers, magazines) TV news and Internet news sites. Some of the topics to be studied include: Metaphor in the media "Slant" in news reporting Comparisons of print media, Internet news, and TV news Layout and its effect on perceptions of newsworthiness Newsworthiness in US and UK media compared with Japanese media How the Western media report about Japan Censorship and state control of the media What gets translated into English from Japanese newspapers Editorials and political positions among different newspapers News trends |
