Psycholinguistics is the study of the relationship between the mind and language. Although it is a new discipline, there are a number of different ways in which this relationship can be studied. Some studies are concerned with the effect of brain illness and injury on the language of people. Others are concerned with the relationship between language and thought and how machines can be constructed to produce human language and thought. A third major area in the study of Psycholinguistics is how the mind enables humans to learn and use language. In this course we will study all three aspects of Psycholinguistics, but our main focus will be on language acquisition.
Course Objectives
1. Students will learn to understand language as a mental capacity unique to humans, and how this capacity relates to the physical, social and cultural human being.
2. Students will learn some of the fundamental processes involved in first and second language acquisition.

評価方法: The grade for the course is made up of the sum of two examinations. The mid-term examination is worth 40% of the final grade. The end-of-term examination is worth 60% of the final grade.
