Debate is a great way to improve your English while also developing critical thinking skills and your general knowledge about current affairs. Debate is not simply about winning arguments. More importantly, it is about learning presentation and research skills, cooperating with other people to present a strong case and recognizing that each issue can have at least two sides. Debating in front of your classmates will help build your self-confidence in other situations when speaking publicly is important.
In this course we will first learn the basic rules and procedures of different styles of debate. We will then put theory into practice by doing numerous debates in class.
