This course is an introduction to public speaking. Its primary goals are to introduce you to the basic principles of public speaking and to help you apply them to your own thinking, speaking, and writing. Over the course of the semester, you will learn various techniques to select a speech topic and purpose, analyze the audience, gather materials, organize a speech, and deliver messages effectively in public settings. The emphasis of the course is placed not only on the presentation part of public speaking, but also on its thinking and writing aspects. Students enrolled in this course are expected to spend a significant amount of time doing research, organizing a speech, practing a presentation, and writing up critique of a peer's speech.

評価方法: The final grade will be based on participation, class exercises, speech assignments, and written critque of a peer's speech. The weight of each assignment is to be announced during the first class meeting.

テキスト名: There will be one small packet we will use in this course. Each student should have one. Supplementary readings may be distributed in class when necessary.
