The aim of the course is to provide a broad outline of the geography, history, politics, and culture of Ireland. We will look at topics such as "Irish place names", "The Irish abroad", The Northern Irish political situation, Irish music and the "Celtic tiger" among others. We will use a variety of methods when studying these subjects- readings, listenings, films, photographs and internet sources. By the end of the course you will understand key issues relating to Irish society, culture and history. You will also get to listen to my Irish accent (mild!)　every class. As part of the course you will have to do some written and reading assignments and a small research project on an Irish topic of your choice which you will present in class.

評価方法： You will have to do some reading and writing homework for the course as well as a research project on a theme of your choice. You will be graded on attendance and participation, your coursework and your final project and presentation. The weighting of these grading criteria will be determined at a later date.
