In this introductory course, students will acquire a background knowledge in second-language acquisition studies. A broad range of topics within the discipline will be addressed such as individual differences in second-language acquisition (including motivation, aptitude, age, intelligence, learner beliefs, and learning styles), the stages of second-language acquisition, and approaches to second-language instruction and learning. Particular emphasis will be placed on the cognitive processes underlying second-language acquisition, comprehension, and production. Throughout this course, students will participate in a wide range of discussion and language analysis activities.
