1. | There is no set syllabus based around lecture topics. Instead, the first 3 weeks of the course are spent becoming familiar with the concept of soap operas, Estuary English (a form of British English), the history of the East End of London, and the characters in EastEnders. Thereafter we spend time each lesson watching sections of the soap opera, studying the vocabulary and grammar in the script, practicing the pronunciation, and discussing the cultural issues which arise from the programme. This is a communicative language course so students must be prepared to work in small groups and learn from each other as well as from the teacher. The rate of progression through the course is not guided by lecture topic, but by the students'rate of understanding and assimilation of the material. |
