| The course will be based on the theme of TRAVEL. This theme is commonly looked at in mainstream EFL from the point of view of holidays and tourism. However, my aim is to look at a much broader view of travel and the experience and history of traveling. Below I have sketched 9 possible areas to study and made suggestions as to the main ideas that students will engage with, as well as suggesting examples to illustrate those ideas. I think that there is a lot of scope in a course like this for many student centred activities (e.g. in the process of research, in recounting personal experiences, in doing questionnaires/surveys etc.). At the end of the course I hope to have opened students eyes to a conception of travel that is historically,geographically and psychologically informed and help them think in a fresh light about varieties of travel experience. |
