  Drama: Preparing to Perform

This course is an integrated skills course intended to create an appreciation of a variety of dramatic forms. It is also an introduction to classical and modern drama from around the world. Topics will include acting techniques, performing monologues, dialogues, and plays.
The main objectives of this course include: 
(1) developing students'reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills
(2) increasing students'ability to think critically
(3) creating awareness and appreciation for various dramatic forms
(4) increasing students'confidence in expressing themselves in English

評価方法: (1) Attendance Policy: Absence from one 90-minute class period will result in a loss of 5% of the final grade. If a student is late for class, he or she will lose 3% of the final grade.
(2) English Only Policy: In order to create an English environment which will be beneficial for all students, it is required of students that they only speak English in class. Speaking languages besides English in class will result in a loss of 5% of the final grade each time that this occurs.
(3) Class Participation:(20%) Students will be required to participate in a reader's theatre every week in which they will need to read the assigned readings out loud. They will also need to demonstrate their understanding of the readings by participating in class discussions based on the readings.
(4) Homework:(20%) Students will be required to read selected readings at home every week in order to prepare for class readings and discussions. For homework, they will need to check unfamiliar words in the dictionary and answer questions based on the readings.
(5) Performance of Monologue:(10%) Students will need to select a monologue, memorize it, and perform it in front of the class. They will be evaluated on their degree of fluency, pronunciation, volume, memorization, expression, and originality.
(6) Writing of dialogue:(10%) Students will write a dialogue in pairs. They will be graded on the length of the dialogue, proper use of grammar and spelling.
(7) Performance of dialogue:(10%) Students will perform their dialogue in front of the class. They will be evaluated on their degree of fluency, pronunciation, volume, memorization, expression, and originality.
(8) Writing of play:(15%) Students will write a play in groups consisting of at least 3 people. They will be graded on the length of the play, proper use of grammar and spelling.
(9) Performance of play:(15%) Students will perform their play in front of an audience. They will be evaluated on their degree of fluency, pronunciation, volume, memorization, expression, and originality.

注意事項: You will be asked to read a selection of monologes, dialogues, and plays. Active participation and discussion in English is required. You will be expected to write and perform a monologue,
dialogue, and play. The instructor will provide all of the readings, so you will not need to purchase any texts for this course. As the final group project, you will be expected to write and perform a play in front of your classmates, peers.
