The simple aim of this course is to teach the basic skills of argumentive writing. However two other elements: 1) Use of an interactive class webpage and 2) Class debates will be used strongly to help you achieve this goal. Students will be expected to actively support each other no matter what debate team or side of an argument they present. In fact, while you will decide the topics that you want to debate on, you will not always be able to pick the side. The point will be to understand a controversial topic so well that you can argue from any direction. Your skills of argument will be greatly tested and improved from your classmate and teacher comments. After in class speaking debates, you will always write an 2-4 page essay on the same topic. Don't worry if you are not good at writing, that is the goal of this class. Your final grade will have more to do with your progress and contributions to the class, than to the level you begin the class at. Students will get detailed written feedback from classmates and their teacher on thier writing. Multiple drafts of writing will be the norm. |
評価方法: | As mentioned above students will be graded on class andhomework writing, class debate performance (attandanceis critical!), the way that they support classmates, use of the class webpage, and progress. |
