In this intensive course we will deal with some important living writers from different parts of the world who have been deeply involved with more than one culture. Some of them have chosen to write books in non-native languages and live outside their native contries because of oppression and other reasons. They have struggled with serious psycological, political, religious, philosophical, ethnic, and other conflicts which cannot be easily resolved, perhaps not at all. Their views transcend optimistic preconceptions about national literatures in relation to the world. They are generally engaged with social and political issues that are not confined to national boundaries. Some of the authors to be examined are Kazuo Ishiguro, Salmon Rushnie, V.S. Naipaul, Amy Tan. Alice Walker, Toni Morrison, Arundhatti Roy, and Milan Kundera.
