The aim of this integrated skills course is to enable students to improve their overall English proficiency. It will involve all four skills, although more emphasis will be given to listening and speaking than to reading and writing. All of these four skills will be practiced in both semesters. Students will be expected to engage in a variety of activities, such as: (1) performing different types of listening and speaking tasks, (2) working in small groups to prepare and give presentations, which may involve team teaching, and (3) reading novels, short stories, or graded readers, and then writing about them critically. The emphasis to be placed upon each of these, or indeed any other, activities will be decided after negotiation between the students and the instructor.

評価方法: Grades will probably be based upon: (1) presentations, (2) examinations, and (3) written assignments. However, the details of the grading system will be decided after negotiation between the students and the instructor.

テキスト名: There will be no textbook, but handouts will be distributed as necessary. Students are expected to bring bilingual (English-Japanese and Japanese-English) dictionaries to class.

注意事項: In order for the course to flow smoothly, it is essential for students to be willing to work closely with others, both inside and outside the classroom, to come to class on time and well prepared, and to be aware of the deadlines for assignments.
