This course focuses on the importance of intercultural communication competence for effective international business. The course will sensitize students to important intercultural and international management issues that can facilitate or frustrate international business transactions and will examine various communication strategies and protocols essential for effective international business. The course will enable students to ask the right questions in a multicultural environment and provide a forum in which to address the global challenges of intercultural cooperation. Themes explored will include multicultural team development, the dimensions of organizational and national culture, managing cultural diversity, and cross-cultural transitions. Students will interview international business managers and/or other employees of internationally oriented businesses. As well, students will work in teams to research and deliver a professional, in-class presentation covering one aspect of international business communication. Each student will also research and read at least four current events articles over the semester and prepare a 1-2 page reaction summary for each. |
評価方法: | The final grade is based upon class participation/ attendance/ pop quizzes (20%), individual interview report (30%), IBC research & reaction summaries「x4」 (20%), in-class group presentation & reflection paper (30%). |

The class will combine lectures, activities and discussion, with an emphasis on the latter. Class participation will figure prominently in student evaluations. Language of Instruction: Japanese and/or English. Unless otherwise specified, written work must be in English. This is a communication course, not a language course. International Business Communication is a prerequisite for this course. Third and fourth year students who have not taken IBC may enroll in this course with instructor approval. |
