American Culture and History Through Music

This course will present the social and historical trends in the USA from the mid 1800s to the present through a study of the changes in music and music styles. Included is an overview of early church music, Afro-American spirituals and gospel, blues, jazz, swing, country and folk, rock and roll, 60's rock, Latin, soul, rap, and new country western. The social implications of these musical changes as well as the impact of the major artists will be considered.

4. Oral Presentation and Poster Outline 40%
